Internet investor Softbank will launch a high-speed Internet service in Japan that uses wireless networks based on the 802.11b standard, the company announced Wednesday. The service will deliver speeds of about 8MB per second and will cost about $17.50 a month. Softbank is the second major Japanese communications company to announce 802.11 plans. Major carrier Nippon Telegraph & Telephone said it intends to begin a trial of a similar service.
