J.D. Edwards reports gains

Continued demand for its enterprise software for the AS/400 boost the Denver-based business applications maker's fourth-quarter results.

Continued demand for its enterprise software for the AS/400 provided a boost for J.D. Edwards' (JDEC) fourth-quarter results.

The Denver-based business applications maker reported net income of $22.8 million, or 23 cents per share, compared with net income of $17.7 million, or 20 cents per share, a year ago.

Revenue for the fourth quarter of fiscal 1997 increased 40 percent, to $216 million, compared with revenue of $154 million reported a year ago, the company reported.

The company pointed to continued strong demand for its enterprise software for the AS/400 platform, plus increasing demand for its Unix and Windows NT package, as fueling growth throughout the year.

The company also said its commitment to the "middle market," which it defines as companies with revenues of $100 million to $2 billion, paid off in 1997.
