As, iTunes Radio has expanded beyond the borders of the US, landing in Australia.
International rollout of iTunes Radio has officially begun, with Australia the first to get the freeoutside the US since its launch in September last year.
From today, iTunes Radio is available as a free, automatic update to the Music app on iOS, iTunes for Mac and PC, and Apple TV. The free, ad-supported service curates recommended listening for you based on your iTunes library, using the music you listen to on the radio service to further refine its personalisation. Ads can be removed for an AU$34.99 annual subscription to iTunes Match — which is a pretty sweet deal compared to Spotify's AU$6.99 per month.
All music played on iTunes Radio can also be purchased from the iTunes store. Based on a quick look at the iTunes service, you can choose multiple ways to listen when you search for an artist or genre: Hits, which is the most popular tracks; Variety, which offers up a mix; and Discovery, which offers up related tracks.
iOS devices include Siri integration so that you can request similar songs and find out more about tracks hands-free.
"iTunes Radio offers music fans access to thousands of new songs every week, as well as serving up exclusive music from new and popular artists before you hear them anywhere else," Apple said. "Whether it's an exclusive single from an up-and-coming band or a pre-release stream of an entire album, iTunes Radio has it all. iTunes Radio is home to special events including live streams direct from the iTunes Festival in London and other exclusive iTunes Sessions."
