Apple will report its quarterly results today, and the numbers shouldn't be pretty.

After riding the mobile wave since 2007, the Silicon Valley giant faces softer profits now that phone sales have slowed. With the upcoming iPhone expected to offer few improvements, Apple's tough times may continue.

Verizon also was hit by a cooler phone market, with the wireless carrier reporting lighter revenue in its latest quarter.

And, onto the wearables world, we discuss a new bracelet from Swiss startup Ava that tracks a woman's fertility cycles and helps her figure out the optimal time to conceive. This new tech doesn't come cheap, with the bracelet priced at $199.

The 3:59 gives you bite-size news and analysis about the top stories of the day, brought to you by CNET Executive Editor Roger Cheng, Senior Writer Ben Fox Rubin and Producer Bryan VanGelder.
