iPro 2X Tele iPhone lens gets you a little closer

"iPhoneographers" after better portraits will want to check out this little lens.

Schneider Optics

While not the extreme telephoto lens many people wish their iPhone had, this new 2X Tele lens from iPro will bring your subject in closer for better portraits and head shots.

Designed for the iPhone 4 and 4S, this lens extends the focal length to about 60mm (35mm equivalent). The lens maker, Schneider Optics, claims that it covers the iPhone's full photo and movie formats without vignetting, so image quality is good across the entire frame, not just in the center.

This lens joins two other lenses in iPro's iPhone lens lineup: a wide-angle lens that increases the iPhone's field-of-view by 35 percent and a fisheye that'll give you a 165-degree field of view. All of the lenses attach to the iPhone using iPro's case, which uses a simple bayonet mount for quickly changing the lenses.

The lens housings are made from anodized aluminum alloy and the multi-element optics are made from top-grade optical glass and feature high-efficiency multilayer coatings, which reduce lens flare and increase light transmission.

Schneider Optics is the U.S. subsidiary of the German optical manufacturer Schneider-Kreuznach by the way, so the chances of this being high-quality glass are fairly good and explains its estimated price of $100 when it becomes available in April. The iPro Wide Angle and Fisheye lenses are already available for $199 with the necessary case and a handle that doubles as storage for the lenses and a tripod mount.
