Thousands of you have taken the time to predict how our Greatest Gadget of the 21st Century tournament is going to shake out, and so far you seem to think there'll be one clear winner: the Apple iPhone.

We've taken a look at the predictions you've made for the overall winner, and as of last night, exactly half of all those that have made a prediction believe the iPhone will triumph. Most popular after that so far is the iPad, closely followed by the USB key, which Rory Reid for one will be delighted with.

The major upset so far is the number of people willing to back the HTC Desire HD Android smart phone as the winner. Just 2 per cent of you are willing to get behind this Editors' Choice-winning mobile all the way to the end.

The product at the bottom of the prediction table so far is the humble Sony Walkman HD5. Just one of you thinks the MP3 player from 2006 will be voted the readers' Greatest Gadget. We're guessing that one was the result of an unlucky dip. On the right are the top predictions in a rather dull-looking pie-chart -- sorry, that was the most exciting option we could find in Excel 2007.

Greatest gadget prediction

Remember, these are predictions, not votes. There's no guarantee the iPhone will emerge victorious -- voting proper doesn't begin until Monday. If you want to affect the final outcome, make sure you visit www.cnet.co.uk/greatest-gadget from Monday.

You'll need to vote in every one of the 16 match-ups to make a difference, and every time you vote, you'll be entered into a draw to win either an Arcam rCube, a BlackBerry Bold 9700, a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and a MiFi from Three or one of ten Idapt i4 multi-gadget chargers.

Meanwhile, you have until the end of Sunday to make your prediction. Head to 'Pick the Winner' on our Greatest Gadget of the 21st Century site and select the products you think will win every round, together with the percentage of the vote you think the winning product will receive. The closest predictor will win an Xbox 360 with Kinect.
