Is your iPhone living life in the fast lane? Or does it surf the web like a snail sliding down the side of your garden shed?
Often we write articles describing fantastic apps developed by people we've never met, so the chance to talk up an app developed by the team here at CBS Interactive is a real thrill. Luckily it's also a great app, otherwise things could get awkward around the water cooler.
CheckMyTubes is a data speed test for the iPhone and iPod Touch, which sends a small packet of data to the phone and measures the time it takes for your handset to receive it. Your results are stored in the "results" tab with links integrating Google Maps so you can see when and where you were when you experienced certain results.
The app also sends your results to our data collection server (with your permission, of course) where the results of speed tests from around the world are measured against one another. In the previous version of the app this collected data wasn't accessible, but in version 2 the collected data is viewable on a world map, highlighting the hottest hotspots for web surfing around the world. The app even breaks down results into Wi-Fi and Cellular data, exposing the world's fastest and most robust mobile networks.
