The Apple iPhone 7 has the best display of any smartphone made to date, according to testing firm DisplayMate.

In a Technology Shoot-Out spotted Monday between the iPhone 6 and iPhone 7, DisplayMate President Raymond Soneira found that although the two phones have the same pixel resolution, the 7's new dual color gamuts are not only 25 percent brighter than the legacy phone, but actually produce color accuracy that is "visually indistinguishable from perfect."

Combined with a record high contrast ratio, super performance in ambient lighting and the highest peak brightness measured for any smartphone, Soneira claims the iPhone 7's display is second to none.

The competition mentioned includes the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, whose 5.7-inch, 2,560x1,440 pixel Quad-HD Super AMOLED screen just received the site's "Best Display Ever" award a little more than a month ago.

Comparing the Note's OLED display to the iPhone's LCD, DisplayMate is confident that "for mostly all white screen content, LCDs are likely to remain bright and more power efficient for a while."
