Apple has been at the bubbly, adding fizz to the iPhone 5S with a new champagne gold case -- and it's compared to the black and white models in new leaked photos.

The snaps show the fizzy gold iPhone 5S side-by-side with the traditional black and white models, posted online by Japanese magazine ASCII Plus.

When I first heard the iPhone 5S could come in a new gold case, I was dubious. Thinking along the lines of Shirley Eaton meeting her paint-covered demise in Goldfinger, I didn't think it sounded very Apple. Fortunately, leaked pictures reveal something a little classier.

So why is Apple going for, going for, going for gold? Because it's a very popular colour for phones in China, the biggest potential developing market for smart phone manufacturers.

The much-rumoured cheaper iPhone 5C is also expected to be a colourful character, coming in a range of plastic cases coloured in green, red, yellow, white and blue.

The new iPhone 5S and 5C are expected to take a bow on 10 September.
