iPhone 3G will be "first come, first serve" on July 11th

AT&T representatives have informed iPhone Atlas that the iPhone 3G will be sold to customers on a first come, first serve basis when the device is introduced on July 11th.

Representatives could not confirm whether or not iTunes-based wireless plan activations -- used for the first-generation iPhone -- would be possible with the new model, though they did confirm that the new model will require a 2-year contract initiation or extension at the time of purchase.

As we previously reported, the iPhone 3G will indeed be subsidized by wireless carriers including AT&T, enabling the $199 and $299 price tags for 8GB and 16GB phone models, respectively, potentially obviating an in-home, iTunes-based activation scheme.
