iOS 6 out now, here's how to download it
iOS 6 is out now, and you can now download a fistful of new features to your iPhone 5, iPad or iPod touch.
iOS 6 is out now for some people and should be arriving for everyone any moment. You will be able to download a fistful of new features in the latest version of Apple software to your iPhone 5, iPad or iPod touch.
iOS 6 comes with improved Safari, phone and Mail apps, new Siri options, Passbook, Do Not Disturb and Apple's own Maps app replacing Google Maps. And there's a dedicated Podcast app -- perfect for subscribing to the ear-massaging CNET UK podcast.
To download iOS 6, you need the latest iOS 5 software on your iPad, iPhone or iPod, and a Wi-Fi connection. Look out for a notification alert on your screen that the update is available, and hit Install Now to zap it wirelessly over the air to your waiting Apple gadget.
Just to be safe, back up your stuff first, and have a power cable handy. Bear in mind that the world and his dog will be banging on Apple's virtual door demanding iOS 6 as soon as it's available, and if last year's iOS 5 update is anything to go by that could mean delays.

The new software is compatible with the iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS -- although we suggest seeing how other 3GS owners get on before uprading, as previous software updates caused older phones to struggle.
