Intertainer, Liberate team for video-on-demand

Video-on-demand provider Intertainer says it will combine its service with Liberate Technologies' software to help cable operators provide interactive services to consumers. Under the deal, Los Angeles-based Intertainer said it will become a partner for Liberate's PopTV Program, which provides services for network operators, such as technical consulting and joint-marketing opportunities. San Carlos, Calif.-based Liberate provides the software that lets people play games or purchase products via interactive TV. In February, Intertainer struck a deal with Universal Studios Pay-Per-View that will give it access to Universal's new releases and its full catalog of older films. Intertainer also offers films and other content from its partnerships with Warner Bros., DreamWorks, Sony Music Group, 20th Century Fox and other entertainment companies.
