Intel acquires India consulting group
The chipmaking giant adds muscle to its operations in India by acquiring Network Solutions.
Intel India announced plans to acquire the 120-person consulting group of systems integrator Network Solutions, located in Bangalore, India.
The Intel India subsidiary, also known as Intel Asia Electronics, will use the acquisition to improve support systems integrators and consultants that build networks based on Intel hardware, the company said.
Employees of Network Solutions will serve Intel India but will ultimately be part of Intel's Solutions Enabling Group, a new operation that seeks to serve system integrators using Intel hardware, the company said. Intel recently pledged to invest about $100 million in the Solutions Enabling Group.
"Network Solutions' talented consulting team will be deployed to support system integrators and solution providers as they incorporate Intel Architecture and Intel networking and communications technologies into the new e-Business data center," Will Swope, vice president of the Intel Architecture Group and general manager of the Solutions Enabling Group, said in a statement.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Intel has spent much of 1999 and 2000 on a multibillion-dollar shopping spree, buying up about 25 companies in an effort to push into such new markets as networking and communications. Its most recent acquisition was telecom equipment maker Ziatech for $240 million.
