Integrating Notes, 1-2-3, OneWorld

JD Edwards is integrating Lotus Notes Mail and 1-2-3 spreadsheet applications with its enterprise resource planning package, OneWorld.

JD Edwards has begun integrating Lotus Notes Mail and 1-2-3 spreadsheet applications with its enterprise resource planning (ERP) package, OneWorld.

Using object linking and embedding (OLE), the companies integrated Notes and 1-2-3 with OneWorld to allow users to export data directly from their ERP system into a spreadsheet and edit-in-place 1-2-3 objects. This enables users to do common spreadsheet tasks, as well as connect with colleagues, the Internet and intranets, and other spreadsheet information they need, Lotus said.

In addition, with Notes Mail, integration takes place using the MAPI 1.0 (mail application programming interface) email protocol. As a result, OneWorld users can send messages and file attachments to other Notes users, as well as create, track, and manage messages, documents, and tasks generated from within the ERP system.

The new offering is now available with the regular purchase of JD Edward's applications package.
