Instagram wants to feed into your tendency for impulse purchases.
Starting next week, the photo sharing social network will test out new in-depth posts from 20 US retailers, including Kate Spade and Warby Parker. These expanded posts offer more information on a product, and also include a "Shop Now" tag that takes you straight to the retailer's website for a quick purchase.
The move is designed to make Instagram, a unit of Facebook, a more useful destination not just for your friends' quirky dinner photos, but a resource when looking for purchases like handbags, clothes or glasses.
Instagram was quick to note that this wasn't just a simple link out to a retailer's site. The in-depth posts allow consumers to get more information about specific products.
"Knowing that Instagrammers are open to discovery on the platform, and that people take time to better understand the products they're interested in, this test gives our community valuable steps along their shopping journey before they make a purchase," the company said in a blog post on Tuesday.
