The popular photo-creation and sharing app Instagram has opened its doors to Hipstamatic, allowing users to post their photos directly to Instagram.
Apart from its built-in photo filters, Instagram has taken off as a social network in itself. After recently hitting 27 million users, Instagram is also working on an Android app, which is close to completion. Until now, Instagram has only allowed photos from the app to be shared amongst other social networks, like Facebook and Twitter, rather than imported and shared the other way around.
According to Fast Company, the Hipstamatic app will now allow users to push the photo out to Instagram. As a result, when images appear on Instagram, they will be labelled with the tag "Taken with Hipstamatic". When clicked, this tag will open up the Hipstamatic app or redirect users to the app store to download it.
Speaking with Fast Company, Hipstamatic co-founder and CEO Lucas Buick said that social networks are shifting. "When we launched, it was all about Facebook and Flickr and Twitter, and now we're seeing a huge shift in our user base towards Instagram. We've never been a social networking company, but we clearly benefit from social networks. So this will be the first app outside of Instagram that lets you into their network. That's pretty cool for us."
