Game publisher Infogrames reported its first profitable quarter Tuesday, with revenue more than doubling from a year ago. The company reported a net profit of $552,000, or a penny per share, for its fiscal first quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with a net loss of $32.7 million, or $1.58 per share, in the same period a year ago.
Revenue for the period totaled $81.7 million, versus $39.6 million a year ago. The company credited strong sales for titles such as "Driver 2" for the PlayStation 2 console and the "Railroad Tycoon" PC game. "These first-quarter results validate the logic behind our strategic acquisitions, our emphasis on games for the mass entertainment audience and our continued support of all platforms," Chief Executive Bruno Bonnell said in a statement.
