Ice Cream Sandwich for £150 with the Disgo Tablet 8104
The Disgo Tablet 8104 is a new tablet offering Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest version of Android, for £150.
Fancy bagging yourself Ice Cream Sandwich for just £150? That's the promise made by the Disgo Tablet 8104, a new slate offering the latest version of Android for a sum that won't break the bank.
The 8104 sports a 10.1-inch touchscreen with a 1,024x600-pixel resolution. Inside there's a 1.2GHz Boxchip Cortex A8 ARM processor and Mali-400 graphics chip, with 512MB of RAM. The battery keeps on trucking for up to 5 hours of use.
You get 4GB of onboard storage for your movies and music, which can be expanded to 36GB by bunging in a micro-SDHC card. There's a mini-HDMI socket too for connecting the tablet up to your high definition telly.
Oh, and there's a front-facing camera for video calls, but no rear-facing main camera.
With Android 4.0 on board, you can stuff your home screens with apps and widgets. Unfortunately, the 8104 doesn't access Google Play, the official Android app marketplace, as the folks at Disgo don't want to splash out for the Google Play license. Instead, you can get apps direct from Disgo or from alternative app store SlideMe.
Cheap Android tablets are ten-a-penny -- or close, anyway. They include the ZTE Light 2, ViewSonic ViewPad E70, Scroll Excel, and the £90 Jexaa JexTab 808. Then there's the Orange Tahiti, although that ties you into a two-year contract with Orange, so costs you a lot more in the long run.
