IBM zips up purchase of storage maker
Big Blue acquires TrelliSoft, which makes Java and Web-based tools designed to help companies manage various aspects of storage infrastructure.
TrelliSoft is being integrated into IBM's Software Group, and its TrelliSoft products are now available from IBM Tivoli Software, IBM said.
TrelliSoft's software offerings include Java and Web-based tools designed to handle different aspects of storage infrastructure, including capacity, availability, event, performance and asset management.
IBM had already been working on storage resource management software and said that technology from Glen Ellyn, Ill.-based TrelliSoft would complement its projects.
Storage management has become more important for data-swamped companies, with analysts saying the market for such products could triple by 2005. Meanwhile, storage makers such as EMC have been sharpening their focus on software as their hardware sales have lost momentum.
Last week, IBM and Hewlett-Packard signed a deal to let each company's storage management software work with the other company's products.
