IBM to pour $100 million in Indian software lab
Big Blue says the lab will play an important role in its global Linux initiative and will initially employ 500 professional developers.
It?s the fourth facility that IBM has established in India, and "the lab will play an important role in IBM's global Linux initiative, which is part of the company's strategy to ensure open standards and interoperability," the company said in a statement.
IBM is already involved in software and application development projects in e-business infrastructure, electronic marketplaces and mobile computing. "Plans are in place for the lab to be involved in the development of business solutions for a variety of industries to streamline their business processes," IBM added.
About 500 professional developers will be employed there initially, with the number expected to "increase significantly" in the coming months. It will be based in India's hi-tech capital Bangalore and in the western city of Pune.
