IBM ThinkPads head into big blue yonder

IBM announced on Thursday that it has inked an agreement with Britannia Airways to provide ThinkPad X24 notebooks to the airline's 430 pilots. The pilots will use the ThinkPads to store flight manuals and related data as well as make calculations required for flying. Storing the manuals on the notebooks, which weigh about 3.5 pounds each, eliminates the need for the pilots to tote a variety of manuals that can weigh as much as 40 pounds, IBM said. The deal, worth about $1.6 million, also includes a seven-year service contract.
