IBM has introduced several Unix server-and-software packages designed to make it easier and cheaper for customers to get e-commerce sites running, the company said Monday. The products combine midrange p660 and p640 Unix servers with storage systems and several programs, including DB2 database software, WebSphere e-commerce software, Lotus Domino collaboration software and Tivoli software for managing storage devices.
The combined products cost as much as 15 percent less than buying the products separately, IBM said. IBM also is offering a 5.3 percent financing rate. The program is part of a years-long effort to capture Unix server dominance from leader Sun Microsystems.
