IBM and Linux go Hollywood

Buoyed by the success of "Shrek," which was produced entirely on Linux-based machines, IBM plans on Wednesday to announce a Linux-based workstation targeted at the movie production industry. The Linux Digital Studio is a combination of IBM's workstations, servers, storage and services aimed at supporting animators and special-effects creators. Threshold Entertainment, creator of the movie "Mortal Kombat," said it plans to use the IBM Linux Digital Studio product. "Deploying Linux is an investment of resources and an act of faith and will that requires the support of a one-stop technology supplier, and we have confidence in IBM as we move in that direction," Threshold CEO Larry Kasanoff said in a statement.
