The Chinese company's new flagship phone will come to all major Australian telcos. Until now, Huawei's devices have been Optus exclusives.

Huawei's new P9 smartphone is coming to Australia, and it's coming in strong.

Launching on July 5, the P9 will cost AU$799 and be available through all major local telcos, including Telstra and Optus. It'll also be sold at numerous chains, like JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman, as well as some boutique photography stores thanks to its cameras being approved by German photography company Leica.

It's a big move for the Chinese company, whose phones are currently only available through Optus.

The P9 is powered by a octa-core Kirin 955 processor and 3GB of RAM, though the real selling point is its dual rear cameras. Reviewing the P9 back in April, CNET's Andrew Hoyle found the screen resolution and bloatware disappointing, but was impressed with the phone's design and, unsurprisingly, its cameras.
