The first official image of Huawei's super-slim new Ascend P6 smart phone has been released by the company -- and it's a dead ringer for the iPhone 5, right down to the thin white band breaking up the brushed metal surround.

Due to be launched at a swanky London event on 18 June, the Huawei Ascend P6 is set to be the thinnest smart phone on the planet at a ludicrously svelte 6.2mm thick, a full 18 per cent thinner than its Apple-made rival.

"We do everything to the fullest," the Chinese company boasts. "The Huawei Ascend P6 challenges all phones to be the thinnest, smallest, and one of the most compact smart phones with a screen that can rival it's [sic] competitors.

"Care to guess how large the screen to body ratio is? Well on June 18th, Huawei will unleash an intimate experience to consumers."

Now there's a promise.

Heavily leaked by Twitter tech tattle-tale EVleaks last week, the P6 is rumoured to run on the slightly out of date Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean software. There's a 4.7-inch high-definition display, which may well appeal to normal-handed folk intimidated by some of the 5-inch-plus Android giants out there. A meaty 1.5GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM are crammed in behind it.

It's set to come in white, black and pink. Here's a leaked PR shot:
