HTC One X, meet Jelly Bean. Jelly Bean, HTC One X. That's the introductions out of the way, so I can get on with telling you that Jelly Bean, the next generation of Android, is coming to the HTC One X and HTC One S.

The mobile maker told us: "We know HTC fans are excited to get their hands on Google's latest version of Android. At this point in time, we can confirm that we have plans to upgrade our HTC One X, HTC One XL and HTC One S to Jelly Bean. Please stay tuned for more updates regarding device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Jelly Bean."

HTC hasn't yet named a date for the update, however, so it could be days, weeks or months before the One X and One S get Beaned.

The One X is a quad-core, 4.7-inch Android powerhouse packing the previous version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich. The One S is the more streamlined handset, with a 4.3-inch display and dual-core chip. As great as the One X is -- and it is great -- on balance, we think the One S is just right, and we even awarded it one of our prestigious Editors' Choice awards.

The HTC One XL is also getting Jelly Bean in the US. The One XL is the LTE version of the One X, so it gets faster web browsing thanks to the 4G network that's yet to arrive in this country.

Jelly Bean makes its debut on the Google Nexus 7, the new 7-inch tablet that's arriving in fans' hands this week. It is version 4.1 of Google's software for mobile devices, sporting a faster frame rate and assorted new features. My favourite is Google Now, which learns from your Google web searches to offer you information when you need it, such as travel information or updates on your favourite sports team.
