The HTC One is made of aluminium, but HTC is set to recruit an iron man to advertise it -- yes, the folks at High Tech Computers are reported to have signed Avengers and Sherlock Holmes star Robert Downey Jr as the face of their phones.

Fresh from the success ofIron Man 3, 48-year-old Downey Jr is reported to be stuffing $12 million into his metal trousers for holding up an HTC phone on billboards, TV ads and in print.

According to Bloomberg, Downey Jr "will have final say over creative elements." Thank heavens -- when I watch an advert, I hate to think the people involved haven't brought the full weight of their creative powers to their corporate shilling.

Downey Jr has also signed up to a second and third Avengers film, featuring Marvel superheroes such as Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, and Scarlett Johansson In A Black Catsuit.

In The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3, Downey Jr will reprise his role as ferrous superhero Iron Man -- or rather, the man in the suit, Tony Stark, the world's only multi-billionaire who drives an Audi. Presumably he'll have ditched that LG phone from the first movie, though.

Perhaps Downey Jr will get to show off the rumoured HTC One Mini, hotly tipped to succeed the One soon.
