HP supports new Red Hat Linux

Hewlett-Packard guarantees that a new lower-end version of Red Hat's Linux software will work on its servers, the company said Wednesday. Red Hat expanded its premium Linux products today, adding a lower-end Enterprise Linux ES product for dual-processor servers and a WS workstation version for programmers.

Red Hat's higher-end Enterprise Linux AS version was priced too high for customers using it on lower-end systems, so the company added the lower-end server product. HP, the top-ranked seller of Intel-based servers, got Red Hat to accelerate its workstation product schedule in 2002.
