HP releases new Itanium workstation

Hewlett-Packard, the largest backer of Intel's high-end Itanium processor line, said on Monday it has introduced a workstation that uses a 1.4GHz Itanium 2 chip. The zx2000 workstation can accommodate as much as 8GB of RAM for memory-intense tasks such as engineering, design or engineering software, according to HP.

The system comes with an operating system choice of the HP-UX version of Unix, Red Hat Linux or Microsoft Windows. Loaded with 2GB of memory and an HP x1 graphics card, the system costs $6,734, HP said.
