HP recruits help to boost OpenView

The systems giant will partner with Cisco Systems and Lucent Technologies to integrate software from those companies with HP's OpenView series of management tools.

Hewlett-Packard (HWP) is turning to third-party integration to boost the functions available in its management software portfolio.

The systems giant announced it will partner with networker Cisco Systems and telecommunications player Lucent Technologies to integrate software from those companies with HP's OpenView series of management tools.

And the company promoted a new plug-in program for management of specific software applications, such as Netscape Communications SuiteSpot, SAP's R3, Oracle databases, and Microsoft Internet Information Server.

By the first quarter of next year, HP will offer plug-in support for Baan, Remedy, SuiteSpot, Microsoft's SQL Server, Commercial Internet System, and Exchange.

Under terms of the partnering deals, Cisco will integrate its Resource Manager Web-based management interface with OpenView and Lucent will tie its firewall software to HP's OpenView Network Node Manager software tool.

HP and Cisco also announced an electronic commerce package yesterday.
