HP 500 series printer problems: ayes and nays

While we get continuing reports of problems with using HP printers in Mac OS 8 (as reported previously), we also get several reports from readers that say their printer works fine. Opinions on the HP 500 series seem especially divided. If you are one that has problems with these printers, reader Will Mardis writes: "The latest versions of HP Backgrounder and HP PrintMonitor are not included in the latest version (6.0.3) of the DeskWriter 500-series drivers, but are included with the latest version of the DeskWriter 600-series drivers. Users of DeskWriter 500-series printers should, therefore, download and install these two files from DeskWriter 600-series drivers."
