Along with a complete overhaul of its mobile apps and Web interface, Twitter quietly added a new option that lets you embed tweets in a third-party site, like a blog. Here's what it looks like:

You'll notice that the embedded tweet isn't just a screenshot, but a functioning permalink--you can reply, retweet, or favorite the displayed tweet. What more, a "follow" button is included, allowing readers to follow the tweeter.

Embedding a tweet is almost as easy as copying & pasting, but requires a few initial steps. Here's how it works:

Step 1: In the new Twitter Web interface, find the tweet you want to embed. Hover over the date (upper right), and an "Open" link will appear--click that, then click "Details." Now you're looking at the permalink.

Step 2: Click "Embed this tweet."

Step 3: A new window will pop up, allowing you to change the alignment (left, right, center, or none). Once you select the alignment, copy the HTML code in the box above, and paste it into a blog post. Be sure you're editing the blog in HTML mode.

And there you have it, an embedded tweet.
