Hewlett-Packard cuts OmniBook prices

Hewlett-Packard today will announce price cuts as high as 15 percent on its OmniBook 5000 series notebooks and release pricing for its new 133-MHz OmniBook.

Hewlett-Packard today will announce price cuts as high as 15 percent on its OmniBook 5000 series notebooks and release pricing for its new 133-MHz OmniBook.

HP has reduced the prices on the OmniBook 5000 CTS 5/120 notebook PC, featuring a 120-MHz Pentium processor, from $6,375 to $5,420, and on the OmniBook 5000CTS 5/90 notebook PC, featuring a 90 MHz Pentium processor, from $5,675 to $5,170.

Both models feature a 10.4-inch SVGA active-matrix LCD screen, a 1.2GB hard drive, a 256K level 2 cache, and 16MB RAM. All HP OmniBook 5000 notebook PCs are based on the PCI bus.

HP is also releasing introductory pricing at $6,580 for its OmniBook 5500 CT 5/133 notebook PC, which was announced March 4 and is slated for May shipments.

The new 133-MHz Pentium notebook PC features a 12.1-inch SVGA active-matrix display, optional quad-speed CD-ROM, and a 4-mbps infrared port. The notebook PC also features a 1.35GB hard disk drive and is based on the same Pentium PCI architecture as the OmniBook 5000 notebook PCs.
