Here's how much 'Game of Thrones' we have left

"Game of Thrones" showrunner David Benioff finally gives a mostly definitive answer as to how much more blood and fire we'll get.

We'll be saying goodbye to some of our favorite characters before too long.

We all know the end game is coming, but it's been an open question as to just how many more episodes remain in the television saga "Game of Thrones." Co-creator and showrunner David Benioff talked to Deadline and gave a pretty solid answer as to exactly how many seasons and episodes are left after season 6 wrapped up Sunday.

Benioff says we will get two more seasons. Normally, that would mean 10 episodes in each, but it looks like seasons 7 and 8 will veer from that usual pattern. Benioff says the original plan was to wrap up the series within 70 to 75 hours. "Call it 73 for now," he said, indicating only 13 more episodes spread across two seasons to finish up the multifaceted story. That does at least leave the door cracked for up to 15 more episodes.

While fans could probably happily watch 10 or 20 more seasons of "Game of Thrones," it was never the creators' intention to drag it out. "We wanted it to be one giant story, without padding it out to add an extra 10 hours, or because people are still watching it," Benioff told Deadline.
