This is how Superman shops for a Christmas tree

Superman actor Henry Cavill teases fans with a tree-toting show of superhuman strength on Instagram.

Henry Cavill isn't a superhero from another planet, but he plays one in the movies.

Don't let that spoil your enjoyment of a fun photo Cavill posted to Instagram on Saturday showing him casually holding up a very large Christmas tree by the bottom of the trunk with one hand.

Cavill's photo quickly collected over 180,000 likes as fans tried to work out how the trick was done. The most likely explanation is the hidden presence of a crane holding the tree up in the air. A close examination of the picture reveals what appears to be a shadow cast by a crane arm.

Or you can choose to believe that Cavill has somehow adopted Superman's super-strength.

Two follow-up posts show Cavill roping the large tree into the bed of a truck and then setting it up and decorating it with the help of a large group of children. Cavill describes the entire event as "Operation Christmas Tree."

The actor's next big-screen appearance as Superman post-"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is scheduled for late 2017 in "Justice League," a gathering of DC Comics superheroes that will include Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and The Flash.
