The European Commission, currently the world's most aggressive body when it comes to enforcing (or, uh, inventing?) antitrust issues, says it's now looking into whether both the HD-DVD and Blu-ray camps are violating European competition rules with their licensing terms. So far, the probe is unofficial, and the EC is just asking for information about those licensing terms. And so far, per usual, the EC is putting me in the weird position of not wanting big businesses to engage in anticompetitive behavior, but still thinking maybe, just maybe, those dudes are a tiny bit on the hair-trigger side.
