Having two versions of Flash installed can cause conflict

MacFixIt reader Martin Totusek describes a problem that is garnering attention on Macromedia's discussion boards:

"I've installed Shockwave Flash 6.0 r79 booted under Mac OS 8.6 and under Mac OS 9.1 (on two different machines) for Netscape Communicator 4.8, Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.1.6, and AOL 5.0's Web Browser for Mac OS; However, whenever I go to a URL that requires Flash 6, I get a message that: 'Flash 6 needs to be installed' or 'This page requires Flash 6'-type messages, under both Netscape Communicator 4.8 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.1.6. Under AOL 5.0, I get: 'the attempt to load 'http://www.anypage.com' failed' messages."

Apparently, this problem can be caused by having an older version of Flash also installed in your browser(s)' plug-ins folder. By default, Shockwave Flash 5.0 r30 is included with each of the above-listed browsers.

Removing the older plug-in can resolve this issue in most cases.
