Handspring announced that its Treo 270 handheld computer is now available for AT&T Wireless's Global System for Mobile Communications/General Packet Radio Service (/GPRS) network. Owners of the Treo 270 will now be able to subscribe to AT&T Wireless service to access e-mail and the Web on their device. The AT&T-compatible models have been on sale exclusively on Handspring's Web site since Tuesday. The Treo 270 is on sale to new and current AT&T Wireless subscribers for $399. By adding a data plan to a voice plan, people can purchase the device for $249.

Treo models have been available on the cellular networks of Sprint and T-Mobile. Handspring is in the process of being acquired by Palm. The deal is expected to close by July.
