Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
As reported on March 31 by CNET's NEWS.COM, GTE had been negotiating with BigBook and had been the lead candidate to buy the company's Web site. At the time, company executives declined to comment on any talks.
Patrick Marshall, vice president of New Media Services of GTE Directories, said the purchase of the domain will increase GTE's presence in the online directory business. "BigBook has strong name recognition and very loyal users," Marshall said.
The BigBook site will include features such as advanced and reverse Yellow Pages search capabilities, a city guide, and GTE's Shop Online service.
As previously reported, BigBook Direct will continue as a network marketing company focused on Net-related products and services.
