GTE expands security service

The national ISP expands its Internet security offerings to cover companies even if they use another provider for Net access.

GTE Internetworking, a top-tier national ISP, has expanded its Internet security service to cover companies even though they may rely on another provider for Net access.

GTE's Site Patrol 4 is an outsourcing security service that provides security policies and procedures, firewall and encryption technologies, and round-the-clock monitoring. It works regardless of a customer's ISP by building security on top of whatever connections the customer has.

If the problem stems from the ISP's connection, GTE's service documents the failure so the customer can work with their ISP to solve it.

The new version of the security service also adds support for Check Point's FireWall-1, in addition to Trusted Information Systems' Gauntlet firewall.

Site Patrol also supports the Sun Ultra platform and can handle high-speed connections up to T3. For secure remote access, the service supports V-One's SmartGate for virtual private networks. The security service is available in 52 countries through GTE ad partners.

Pricing begins at $2,750 per month, with a $5,000 installation fee with no extra for firms that use other ISPs for connectivity. Fees vary for connection speeds greater than T1, and international service runs $3,750 per month with a $7,500 installation fee.
