Grand Theft Auto V features real-life gangster voice-overs
Rockstar, the game's developer, wants the title to be authentic so it allegedly brings in "real-life gangsters" to record the voices for characters.
Rockstar Games' upcoming blockbuster Grand Theft Auto V is far more realistic than originally believed.
Speaking to Chicago radio station WGN recently, Grand Theft Auto V's contributing writer "Lazlow" Jones revealed that the game developer allegedly brought in supposed "real-life gangsters" to record the voices for characters in the game.
"We get these guys in to record the gang characters because we don't want a goofy L.A actor who went to a fancy school trying to be a hard gang member," Jones said to WGN Radio. "There's nothing worse than that, so just go find the terrifying people and say 'can you come in here please?'"
Rockstar has been lauded in the past for its high-quality voice-overs in titles. According to Jones, the company's decision to bring in the individuals follows the company's desire for authenticity. In some cases, the actors threw out the game's script and ad-libbed based on what they believed they would say in a given moment, according to Jones.
Grand Theft Auto V is slated to hit store shelves later this month. The title follows a few protagonists and includes rival gangs, similar to previous iterations of the franchise.
