More than one million Californians fall victim to identity fraud each year, so Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is taking action.

On Thursday an event organized by the Schwarzenegger administration called "Teaming Up Against Identity Theft: A Summit on Solutions" started in Los Angeles. It is the administration's second annual event aimed at fighting identity theft.

The event brings more than 1,000 people together and focuses on education and training in privacy protection and identity theft prevention, according to a statement from the Schwarzenegger administration.

"The effects of identity theft can be devastating and take years to recover from. The cost of identity theft impacts individuals, businesses and the economy -- fighting it will take a team effort," Schwarzenegger said in the statement.
