If you're looking for the technology industry's most popular company, look no further than Mountain View, Calif.
ABC News and the Washington Post recently joined forces with Langer Research Associates to poll more than 1,000 Americans between March 28 and April 1 on their attitudes toward some of the tech world's most successful companies. The researchers found that a whopping 82 percent of respondents have a "favorable" opinion of Google, making it the most popular tech company. Just 9 percent of respondents expressed an "unfavorable" opinion toward the search giant, while 10 percent of consumers said they didn't have an opinion.
The world's largest company, Apple, took the second spot in the study, earning a 74 percent favorability rating among Americans. The media outlets found that 13 percent of respondents have an unfavorable opinion of Apple, while 14 percent don't know what their feelings are for the company.
Apple is not used to being in second place. In the vast majority of studies on opinions about the company, Apple has won out. Back in September, for example, thefor the eighth year in a row, earning a score of 87 out of 100. Google, however, wasn't included in the study.
The media outlets broke the study down even further by looking at a variety of demographics. Among people with household incomes of $100,000 or more, Google and Apple are most popular, earning a favorability rating of 93 percent and 91 percent, respectively. A whopping 92 percent of respondents under the age of 30 like Google, while 81 percent of folks in that group could say the same about Apple.
The researchers also found that the search company's popularity handily beat that of Facebook, which secured a 58 percent favorability rating, and Twitter, which could only muster 34 percent favorability. Twitter was also the only company in the survey to have more people share an unfavorable opinion than a favorable stance.
One other interesting note from the study: 63 percent of women view Facebook favorably, compared to 53 percent of men.
