Google Cast media-streaming technology isn't going away. But it seems the name for it is changing, again.
On Tuesday, Google subtly announced a rebrand of Google Cast to Chromecast by way of a Twitter handle change:
The tech giant has been jumping around on its branding for Cast, most recently switching from Google Cast to Google Home with the release of the company's smart speaker.
"We're rebranding Google Cast to 'Chromecast built-in' to help users identify the technology that they've come to enjoy and appreciate," said a Google spokesperson. "The new branding officially starts in 2017, which is why you'll see it slowly rolling out in the meantime."
Going forward, expect to see more products labeled with "Chromecast built-in," such as TVs from Toshiba and Vizio instead of Cast.
It's the same technology, just a new name. Sort of. Got it?
