Google Nexus 5 to have Nikon camera, fresh rumour says
Cryptic new rumours concerning the next Google-brand smart phone have emerged.
Scurrilous new rumours concerning the next Nexus have emerged, pointing to a Nikon-branded snapper on the so-called Nexus 5.
Nikon branding will adorn the follow-up to the Nexus 4, according to PhoneArena, which cites an unnamed source who reportedly reckons we'll also see a 5-inch 1080p display bolted to the front of Google's upcoming smart phone.
The camera is said to feature Nikon branding, suggesting the Japanese camera company will be contributing some photo-capturing technology to the mobile. The anonymous tipster is also quoted as describing a "triple camera sensor thing", which sounds like it could refer to a multi-layered image sensor that captures images using stacked sensors.
HTC was rumoured to be using this technology in its HTC One smart phone, but instead the Taiwanese tech corp. opted for a single 4-megapixel sensor, relying on larger individual pixels on a 1/3-inch sensor to let in more light.
Google bod Vic Gundotra last month took to Google+ to comment that the company was committed to making Nexus phones with "insanely great cameras", which lends credibility to the notion of a phone with a strong camera, er, focus.
The report also suggests the Nexus 5 will have 2GB of RAM, which contradicts earlier whispers of 3GB of RAM, but sounds a little more reasonable. The leaked snap above suggests the Nexus 5 will be made by LG, but it's wise to take both the picture and any rumoured details with a pinch of salt for now.
Personally all I really want from Google's next effort is a price to match the £239 Nexus 4, which was a brawny bargain the likes of which we've never seen from a cutting-edge mobile. If the Nexus 5 also costs under £300, it could force rivals like Samsung and Apple to drop their own prices in turn.
