Google may drop Nexus branding for future phones

Bridget makes her return to Update with a little help. Reports hint that Google may have some new plans in store for its phones -- and the company is also reportedly shaking up the Nest smart-home team.

After three months of maternity leave, I was worried it would be hard to jump back into tech reporting. Thankfully, all I needed was a montage to get back into hosting shape.

In this Update, we ponder the next evolution of Google's Nexus phones, as reports indicate Google may steer away from the Nexus brand. But Google appears to also be pulling Nest in a new direction. Fortune reports that some Nest engineers are being shifted to work on Google Home, the rival to Amazon Echo.
