Google's Nexus program is dead, long live the Pixel.

Following the announcement of the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones on Tuesday, Google has reportedly decided to end its Nexus program. The Nexus 5x and Nexus 6P have been removed from the Google Store. The company is also said to have no plans to release a future Nexus product, according to The Verge.

Google didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Google created the Nexus program is 2010 with the release of the Nexus One smartphone. The program was designed to show off Android's latest features and capabilities. Nexus devices were also the first to receive new software updates. To date, Google has released eight Nexus phones, four tablets and a single set-top box.

The official Google Nexus Twitter account confirmed that Nexus devices will continue to receive customer support and software updates. It remains unclear, however, if any Nexus device will receive an update with features from Google's new Pixel phones, such as the Google Assistant or the new home screen launcher.

In addition to removing Nexus devices from the Google Store, the company has also removed the NVIDIA Shield console, the Mattel View-Master VR Starter Pack and Goggle Tech C1-Glass VR Viewer.
