Google Glass on sale in 2014, may take photos when you wink

Google Glass could take a photo with a cheeky wink, but it seems the high-tech specs won't go on sale until next year at the earliest. Leaked code suggests eye gestures are on the cards when Google Glass becomes publicly available in 2014.

Currently confined to a trial panel of celebrities, competition winners and Google employees, the high-tech spectacles are voice-operated -- as I found out when I came face-to-face with a Glass-wearing Google employee at a recent trade show. But it's not just spoken commands that will get Glass going in future, if code allegedly discovered in the companion app is to be believed.

Reddit user Fodawim found code that allows for you to pinch your fingers in the air to zoom in and out, like on your phone's touchscreen. And there's a list of potential eye gestures, involving calibrating the glasses to register eye movements and then taking a photo with a cheeky wink.

I'm going to call it Anne Robinson Mode.

The leaked code also reveals a guest mode, allowing you to hand your Glass glasses to someone else to try out without incurring Google's wrath. The Big G has banned resale or even giving away Google Glass, and even makes provision to remotely kill your glasses should they change hands.

Speaking to Radio 4, Google boss Eric Schmidt said Glass would hit shop shelves next year. Prices are yet to be confirmed, but developers have been offered the chance to pre-order the specs for $1,500.
