Google has started inviting visitors of its home page to a largely restored search service for Usenet newsgroups earlier this month. The popular search site had kept the discussion group search cloistered from the main site while it renovated features and archives of the Usenet service.
Google had been slowly restoring the Web-based newsgroup service from Deja.com in its own likeness after its purchase in February of select assets. Over the first half of the year, Google made available an archive of more than 650 million messages from Usenet and introduced features to let visitors post and reply to messages--two basic functions unavailable to visitors since its debut.
