Solid gold Darth Vader helmet only costs $1.4 million

More like Darth Bling. A gaudy gold version of Darth Vader's headgear goes on sale in Japan, but it will put you back a lot of credits.

Things are looking a little brighter on the Dark Side with the debut of a delightfully over-the-top Darth Vader helmet crafted from solid gold. The hefty 33-pound (15 kilogram) sculpture comes from Japanese precious metals business Tanaka Kikinzoku Group, which specializes in industrial products and jewelry.

The Japan Times reports the helmet could be yours for the low, low price of $1.4 million (£1.1 million, AU$1.9 million) when it goes on sale on May 4 (May the Fourth), a day marking global Star Wars celebrations. The bright and shiny work of sci-fi art is on display at a Tanaka Kikinzoku jewelry store in Tokyo.

The Jiji Press wire service posted a video of the luxury item on display on Monday. It appears to be pretty close to life size.

Another Japanese jeweler created a gold-covered Darth Vader mask in 2015, but this new one is solid gold and includes the entire helmet. It does not appear to be wearable, so you'll just have to settle for a regular old black helmet for your personal cosplay collection.
